Re: I'm a cheater...HOW DO I STOP?
Don't over analyze the analyzing, if that makes any sense. You say your mom is a counselor, surely she can give you some tips on self-discovery? There are literally thousands of books and websites devoted to personal growth as well. Simply decide you want to really be serious about it and go for it.
Basically, what works for me is I don't stop asking 'Why'.
Why do I do this? (Because I want 'that'.)
Why do I want 'that'? (Because it means 'this to me.)
Why does it mean 'this' to me? (Because of 'this other'.)
Why does this other still affect me? (Because I've never looked this deep and saw it before.)
Ok, so, now that I 'see' it, why am I *still* letting it control me? (Because I choose to.)
Why would I choose to? (Because *everything* is a choice.)
Why can't I change it? (Why not? It's simply a different choice - change.)
That's just one condensed process, but I hope it helps you understand a little better.
