Hi Fil

Hi Fil,

I’ve not read Ann Wigmore, but she had an excellent reputation while she was alive.

Some Christian groups promote the notion that the Bible teaches that God’s diet for man is vegetarian, some go so far as to say ‘vegan’ vegetarian. This leads to much confusion, especially among non-Christians such as yourself. This is common among most Seventh Day Adventists and among those who promote the Hallelujah Diet. They always cite Genesis 1:29 which says:

Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. Gen 1:29

However, what they fail to mention is the verse in Gen 9:3 (and many other verses which promote eating animal products), which says:

Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything. Gen 9:3

I respect anyone’s right to be a vegetarian. I understand that some people do have a vegetarian metabolic type and as such, they actually thrive on a vegetarian diet. I do believe these people are in the minority. However, it concerns me when they misrepresent the Bible and say that the Bible teaches vegetarianism is ‘God’s diet for man’. They can get quite heated in defending vegetarianism. For some of these well-intentioned people, promoting vegetarianism becomes equal to or more important than preaching the Gospel itself.

Regarding the word ‘meat’. It is true that it can also be translated as the word ‘food’, but this still does not prove that the Bible teaches vegetarianism. The Bible is overwhelming in promoting the use of animal products. Note the historic diets of orthodox Jews, which certainly includes many animal products.

Clearly, the Bible promotes two health messages, one spiritual and one physical. The physical health message of the Bible promotes a whole food diet similar to what is advocated by the Weston Price Foundation, along with lots of faith, hope and love.

The spiritual health message of the Bible is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is interesting that Christ referred to Himself as the ‘bread’ of life and ‘living water’ that came down from heaven. Clearly, the spiritual message of the Gospel is of first importance and it is the central message of the Bible. Well-intentioned people often get the importance of these two messages mixed up.

Regarding Dr. Jensen, he passed away a couple of years ago. I had the privilege to study from Dr. Jensen and he was another nutritional giant. He did advocate a Weston Price (or NT) diet. He made a remarkable recovery from prostate cancer and paralysis when he was in his 80’s. He drank fresh goat’s milk daily, and he felt it was instrumental to his recovery. After his recovery from paralysis I asked him what he felt was most important to his miraculous recovery and he said first and foremost, it was the grace of God. After that, he felt good nutrition plus lots of food concentrates and supplements, especially enzymes and probiotics were vital.
