Excitotoxins

Hi Dr. V! What do you know about excitotoxins? For example I know Mono-Sodium-Glutamat (Natrium Glutamat) and Aspartame are both excitotoxins and we should avoid them. But I'm confused when it come to amino acids in the supplemental form. I read that book, Excitotoxins: The taste that kills and since then I've been a bit confused. It says that glutamic and aspartic acids, especially in the liquid forms, are excitotoxins. They cause the brain neurons to fire uncontrollably which in turn allows too much calcium in and then cells start to die. Mainly I'm wondering about Emergen' C because it's made in a base of glutamic, aspartic and some other acids. I know many people take this and it works so well for them but I'm hesitant to take anything with supplemental aminos in it. Am I being silly? I just don't want to find out down the road when more studies are done that I've been doing more harm than good. I think we need to use more caution with supplements. I'm starting to believe more and more that getting vitamins, minerals and such from food is far superior than the isolated and fractionated supplements. Plus, aren't many supplements made from a metallic form rather than an ionic form? The body doesn't use them in the same way, something about bio-availabilty.
