Re: 7 month old with eczema around mouth the worst

Hello,

Let me just start by saying that two of my nieces (sisters) suffered with severe eczema breakout in their infancy and have not suffered another breakout in 5 and 3 years now since we found healing for their skin. We accomplished this without the use of harmful medications and by applying a learned wisdom that we have categorized as "3 target points" for healing the skin of eczema. We found that we would need to address the internal, external and foreign in order to heal the skin completely of eczema flareups. Eczema flareups are a reflection of an immune problem. Our goal with our nieces was to restore a healthy balance to their immune systems. A good nutritional diet was going to be key in establishing a healthy immune system; however, we knew that it would take some time to achieve this. In the interim, we needed to deal with the immediate need to heal the skin. Because we knew of the damaging effects of steroid/synthetic medicines and creams on the skin, we began our search for natural skin care alternatives. For us, the dramatic healing results came with the use of the Burt's Bees Baby Bee skin care line. In particular, the almond oil for the scalp, the bath milk and vitamin E oil for the bath, and the Buttermilk lotion used as a total body moisturizer. We still use this skin care line for the girls today.

The Burt's Bees Baby Bee skin care line has been successful in healing the skin of eczema for my family and many others; however, not all families will experience the same results. Some individuals may develop an allergic reaction (each eczema sufferer is different). Another alternative is a fragrance free option called Borage Skin Therapy by Shikai. This lotion comes in adult and pediatric formulations. Should this be the option of your choosing, I also suggest purchasing their fragrance free, moisturizing bath and shower gel. Their bath gels contain colloidal oatmeal and aloe, which have natural anti-itch, anti-oxidant and anti-inflammtory properties. This process goes towards addressing the external part of the 3 target points I mentioned.

In referring to the foreign, I'm talking about identifying your child's allergens. With infants, especially due to their compromised immune system at this young stage, many allergens may be playing a role in their breakouts. For my family, dust mites and baby formula were the culprits. Antibiotics given to fight a cold or flu has also served as culprit for severe eczema breakouts in infants and is something that you should be aware of as well. Here is a list of additional allergens that you will need to be aware of: pet dander, dry air/unclean air, molds, pollen, harsh/synthetic fabrics (wool/polyester), chemical toxins, harsh soaps/detergents, household cleansers, chlorines/bleach, & stress.

Good nutrition is going to play a major role in the long term health and freedom from eczema flareup for your child. The hardest part in this initial stage is finding the right nutritional balance. Beta carotene and zinc are your immune boosters. Green vegetables are excellent sources of beta carotene and are a mainstay in my nieces diets. Because we knew that my nieces had a vitamin deficiency, we were sure to supplement their diets with a multivitamin for infants in liquid form. Especially in the cases where most foods seem to be bringing about allergic reactions in infants and children, a daily multivitamin will be very important to ensure that the body is receiving proper nourishment.

What types of food have you introduced into your childs diet? What fruits? What vegetables? What drinks? Soft drinks and sugary drinks will cause havoc to the immune system. When selecting fruit drinks, make sure that it is 100% fruit juice. Water is going to become very important to your child's daily nutrition. It may seem strange or even offensive to some that I mention soft drinks and infants; however, I know personally (have witnessed) two infant/toddlers (from different families) give their child soft drinks in their bottles and toddler cups. One of those children has severe eczema skin and the parents are frustrated by the fact that nothing seems to work to heal the skin. This is why it is so important to address all 3 target points when healing the skin of eczema. I know that I've given you a lot of information; however please take the time to respond with the listing of the types of food that you have introduced into your child's diet. I may be able to spot the allergens in your listing for your consideration.

sincerely,

aunty
