Re: Christianity "Debate"?
You are correct, Lamia333, that is my idea of debate as well. Even though others on this forum would not agree, I am a Christian, more on the progressive end than the conservative, and definately not fundamentalist. In fact, I have been judged and condemned to hell by the jury here. I have been able to integrate other forms of meditation, etc. into my life, my Christian path is an integrated one. I am sure that others do not see it as "pure" Christianity, but I know in my heart what is Truth, led by the Spirit.
My concern for this forum is that the opinions are primarily limited to that of fundamentalist thought. Expressing one's opinion is fine, in fact that's what this is all about, learning, sharing, witnessing, etc.....but there are many viewers, probably hundreds, potentially thousands, to this forum. For some of those people, this may be their only experience with Christianity. I feel that it is important to let them see that there are perspectives, even within our "religion" that are quite different. But the most important and unifying element of our faith is Jesus the Christ. And Jesus was not about divisions, but of Oneness/Unity.
Jesus Christ himself spoke of this type of Oneness and the unity between the Father and He, and ourselves (his disciples) and He. John 17:11 says, "And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are." Verse 21 says, "That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me." Verse 22 reads, "And the glory thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:" Verse 23 says, "I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one." From these verses we can see that Christ is referring to a unified oneness rather than a numerical oneness.
It is obvious that the body of Christ has many members but one body as Paul said in 1 Corinthians 12:12, "For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ." Jesus prayed that we may be one even as He and the Father are one.
Many of the posters here are SO fear-based?? it's enough to just live our own lives learning our own lessons and growing in love without judging others.....isn't love the entire essence of Jesus' teachings?? He was not about do's and don'ts, look how he came down on the Pharisees about their rules and regulations. Jesus Himself broke all the rules of the day, such as healing on the Sabbath, associating with "sinners" and women, etc. etc.
We all "put on the mind of Christ" in different ways. Whatever road leads me to deeper awareness, more compassion, and the kind of love that Jesus talked about, works for me!!
Peace and blessings.......
