Re: My wife was told that she could have TMJ at first.
I have suffered from TMJ disorder for years. I am actually having the dreaded surgery in the morning. My surgeon will do the arthoscopic surgery on the right side where the disk is out of the joint. I will have an incision on the left side because the disk is torn.
One of my symptoms is toothaches. This is mostly because I clench my teeth. Some people clench and others grind. Usually it happens while we are asleep. So some people aren't aware that it is happening. Mine is directly related to stress. The more stress, the more clenching, the more pain!
There is a vicious cycle that happens with TMJ sufferers. If the joint is out of whack, the related muscles and nerves swell and cause pain. The more the surroundings swell, the further out of whack the joint gets.
Anyway, I hope since your wife has only been suffering for 6 months, she will be able to try some of the less invasive treatments. I think a chiropractor would be worth trying. Alot of people have had good results. Besides, there are no drugs involved. Also, in the meantime, a simple ice pack helps a great deal. It takes down the swelling and just feels good. I have slept on one many times.
Good luck! And congratulations on the little one!
