To be honest, I would not know how to reconize flannel. The ones that I have seen in health food stores (in cellophane) looks like diaper material. It could very easily be the same. I simply had an old wool blanket that was not being used, so I cut it up into many small pieces. I would think the diaper would be just fine. Hope you will share with us your results.
