NewMe is right. It is not us that heals people. (That's the ego or the misinformed talking) The receiver gives or takes whatever energies they need to facilitate the healing. We are just the vehicle. Thanks for setting that straight NewMe.

As for protecting yourself before giving a treatment, I feel it can be a good idea to include a prayer of intent for that before starting. Also, make sure to consciously disconnect from the client after the treatment. One way to do this is to see a figure 8 wrapped around yourselves with each of you inside a loop of the 8 and envision yourself cutting the center with the intention disconnecting any energies that aren't your own.

Another way is to put all of your fingertips together along with your ankles when standing and say "disconnect" (3 times) quietly to yourself or out loud. Make sure to always wash your hands after as well. (preferably from your elbows down) You literally have been working with bioplasmic matter that has no place staying on you. Many believe the energy and information contained in this matter can be passed on to yourself or others if you don't wash off afterwards.

I did my Karuna Reiki® Master training with the Director of Licensing for the International Center for Reiki Training. Throughout the course we had to perform treatment after treatment on each other with no breaks or washing off in between. Some would say this is dangerous, others feel Reiki is so divine that washing off isn't necessary. I wash up and disconnect after every treatment just to be sure.
