Put simply reiki is the universal energy that flows though everything. Attunement to reiki just gives us the oportunity to direct this energy into people/plants/animals/situations for healing purposes. My favourite site about reiki is grassroots reiki. Go take a look and if you like the idea join the group and request an attunement.

The best site for free manuals on the various reiki modalities around is angel reiki>/A>. I'd start with reiki plain and simple for the closest thing to Usui-sensai reiki.
