Re: Conjunctivitis?
Hi Nspeth,
I know some about this condition. I see students with it in school from time to time. "Itis" just means inflammation. "The conjunctiva is the thin, transparent tissue that covers the outer surface of the eye. It begins at the outer edge of the cornea, covering the visible part of the sclera, and lining the inside of the eyelids. It is nourished by tiny blood vessels that are nearly invisible to the naked eye.
The conjunctiva also secretes oils and mucous that moisten and lubricate the eye."

It is my understanding that this "pink eye" can be caused by bacteria, viruses or be an allergic reaction. It is the bacterial kind that is so contagious.
Was his eye stuck together with all sorts of dried stuff in it in the mornings? Does he have to wet his eyes to get it unstuck? That to me would be an indication of bacterial pink eye.
If it is just runny clear stuff that doesn't make his eyelids stick together, it may be viral or allergic.
I am not familiar with that particular medicine that the doc prescribed. You might do a google search. Hope this helps.
