Conjunctivitis?

I'm sure I spelled that wrong but my hubby just went to the doctor and was told he has conjunctivitis. His right eye has been irritating him for the last 2 or 3 days. Feels like something is in it and it hurts everytime he blinks or closes his eye. I didn't realize it's the same as pink eye. Is that correct? Do any of you know what type of natural remedy would help heal it? The doctor gave him a prescription for Panthenol/Pantenol or something like that. Anyone know about that?
