Dr. Atkins Diet and Diverticulosis

I have been diagnosed with diverticulosis, having it fairly under control, but occasionally have bouts of pain and irritable bowel problems. I know grains and breads (whole grains) are a good source of fiber, which the dr. years ago said to adhere to. I have tried with success the Dr. Atkins Diet, just needing to lose a little weight, especially in abdomen, and am currently on the diet. I immediately feel the difference in the way my clothes fit in stomach area, and would like to lose 15 to 20 pounds. However, have been on it now 3 days, and am having a bout with my irritable bowel. Just trying to sort out the "diet" for me. I also do not have a gall bladder. Could this be a reason why I should not have so many fats....as causing more problems with IBS? Thanks gennylou
