Brain shrinkage from pain
The debate about treating chronic pain rages on. Now there is new information that shows chronic pain is not benign
Those pains that are "not doing damage", in that the pain is not from something burning , its not ripping flesh, there is not any actual trauma going on - those pains are often not reated because of that - "its not damaging you to feel that pain, so you don't need painkillers".
Some might say it sould be the other way around - if there is damage, DO NOT COVER IT UP, but rather figure it out and stop its cause. But medical
Science is a strange lady anymore.
But now, chronic pain mhas been found to cause shrinkage in the frontal lobes. MRIs over 10 years of low back pain victims clearly shows a pattern associated with that pain. The theory is that the brain is working so hard dealing with pain that it becomes over-taxed... brain chemicals are depleted, etc.
Since NONE of the pharmaceuticals offered to date are more helpfull than damaging [Vioxx, Celebrex, Aleve and all nsaids] , the "final solution" of morphine might be appropriate. Morphine is terribly addicting, and if you should even need to stop it you will wish you had not started it, so don't start taking morphine unless you intend to stay on it until death.
But if you are totally disabled, and in discomfort to the point of distraction all day every day, then morphine might be better than nothing. Especially if your brain is shrinking!
Morphine is not the answer for all pains.
But if the doc says "live with it", he might not know about brain shrinkage. Treating chronic pain effectively without taking pills with dangerous side effects is difficult.
Herbal remedies can be surprisingly effective. Cayenne Pepper has alieviated more
Arthritis pains than anything else ever will.
Herbals are not tried out enough - combinations, and the wide variety for various conditions and circumstances, mean a lot of effort has to be put into getting results from herbals. Try seeing a Herbalist, they have a wealth of info.
We tend to try one thing once , and not again if there is not a sudden improvement. Pharmacy has trained us to be like that, so give the herbals a proper chance!
