Re: Celebrex {Createtheproblem offerthesolution
A typical "They create the Problem, and offer the Solution" ploy:
Put
nitrates and all sorts of chemicals into foods, which gives people arthirits.
Then prescribe them a pill when its just a relatively minor
Arthritis problem, and this pill gives people a heart attack or stroke.
Then there are tons of expensive heart surgeries, and the stroke victims become a huge cost too. It doesn't matter who pays for it, as long as they are busier than ever before.
Mostly, its people with coverage who wound up taking Vioxx and Celebrex. We know about that kind of thing from the dentist's office. In this case, prescriptions often cost too much, and so only people with coverage took it!!
So don't believe that they "were surprised", as one Pfizer officail said, that Celebrex would have the same problems as Vioxx. They KNEW it would - I really believe that.
If you see that too, then you might see that "They created a Problem, and then offered the solution" . I see this going on in so many situations. Dentistry, Iraq and 9-11, and soon we'll se how they will solve overpopulation and global warming - big problems need big solutions.....

Vioxx, a Cox2 inhibitor, was killing people.
Heart attack and stroke, the #1 cause of death in North America, was what the unfortunate users of Vioxx were dying of.
I am not schooled in bio-chemistry, and maybe there is more to it than this - BUT WHAT ABOUT CELEBREX?
It is also a Cox-2 inhibitor. I saw a clear warning flag there, so why did it take three or four months for Pfizer to admit this? - because they had to do a study I guess. All that expensive approval process, and they did no studies longer than a few weeks?
Thats what went on with Vioxx - four years of month long stidues - thats just stupid!! Trying to not see any problems is what that is.
And abosutlely no follow up once it hits the market - they don't follow any of the patients taking new meds at all. Some people are asking the FDA to make that a rule, but its a muted voice. [FDA commissoners are often ex-pharmacy guys, and sometimes FDA agents go on to be top managers at pharmaceutical corporations.]
But still... the link between Vioxx and Celebrex is that they are Cox-2 inhibitors. All previous studies didn't run long enough to see these problems. They knew all along that this risk was there - vioxx makers[merck?] knew a few years ago that vioxx was causing heart attacks and stroke.
Stick with these pills long enough, it is likely all users will die of heart attack or stroke. So far, there is no plans to pull celebrex off the shelves.
{K- I posted my concerns about Celebrex months ago]
