Re: decades of low fat fad showed it failed miserably
Here we go, again.
_BOB, the only crucial thing I agree with you is that Atkins diet fails in the long term as far as keeping the lost weight. Yes, that's because of water loss.
Anyway, very one sided opinion of the article.
No.1 Decades of low fat diet failed miserably as far as loosing weight. War on obesity was being fought on a low fat diet! Mainly. If you attack Atkins about amount of lost weight, you should be atacking the lof fat diet ten times as more! hey, low fat craze, thank you for the invention of olestra, significantly increasing
Sugar consumption and othe wonderful inventions.
No.2 Yes, constipation, headache, bad breath does occur, but how significant this is and for how long does it continue? One point is omitted that the worst symptoms of these continue only through the first phases of the diet, while body adapts to ketosis, where it burne ketones for energy, not glucose. Later on, body adapts and many (not all) these thing disapear. By the way, the main source for ALL muscles is fat, not glucose! More and more glucose is needed as an intensity of an excersise increases. In the normal physical activity, for example, normal walking, your body uses more than 50% of energy from fat, not glucose. On the other end, during high intensity your muscles use as much as 95% of calories from glucose. But how much time you spending running 5 min. mile? So, overall it is incorrect to imply glucose is more important than fat.
3. I like this one. Did you pay attention to this sentence?:
<<
>> What would you rather have: heart attack o bad breath? I go for the latter.
4. Hey, what a recommendations! reduce fat and go to the gym. Since what time the reseachers, when they investigate water loss in a study suddenly add a "bonus": their dietary recommendations without providing the very proof they investigated that subject. I smell this study is at least in part a PR plan.
5. Remember, this is just an attack on Atkins with a cover about weight loss in the long term. As I always say, the perfect lie is to include a bit of truth. Jus my oppinion. And I will always know that flour and Sugar industry is never happy about the man who all his life dedicated barking at the world about terrible consequences of Sugar consumption. Sadly, he made some major mistakes along with it.
To me, low fat diet does not look any better than Atkins diet.
