horrific worms - parasites

We learned last week quite accidentally that just as we had suspected two years ago, that Adam apparently caught multiple parasites at conservation camp. These horrific worms apparently have been causing the autoimmune reaction, bleeding, cramping and urgency.

All stool tests were negative throughout the two years. As a consequence of having a Russian orphan at our home, who needed to be treated for pinworms, the entire family was treated in prevention.


Imagine our surprize when Adam expelled large amounts of long worms ! Adam has seen the finest gastro docs in the country and this was never detected !



Sadly, although even our doctors believe that Adam's worms
initiated his apparent UC, the concurrent steroids and the worms have done significant damage.


Although he is expected to recover somewhat, his physicians are guarded as to whether he will ever be able to completely come off Asacol.


It makes you wonder how many cases of UC have a protozoal, helminthic, or other type of trigger.
