Hello Mia,
I thought I would add some notes from my personal experience.
I'm still working toward the 'perfect' diet for me, but one thing I know is that "the whites" (flour, rice, sugar, milk) are a big no no for me personally.
Here are some things that I notice when I remove them:
- NO constipation
- Urination "urgency" during PMS is gone.
- Actually, most other PMS symptoms gone too.
- No painful menstruation (fasting contributed to this)
- No more "pot-bellie"
- Spider veins disappear
- Mental clarity returns
I do my best to eat *no* grains or heavy starches (potatoes). Every "body" is different. I'm leaning toward ayurevidic medicine because you eat for your body type and this is based on thousands of years of knowledge. I've tried every diet, and I'm finally personalizing one "just for me."
I sometimes fall off, and that is usually when a tasty option is not available as an alternative.

http://www.scdiet.org for fabulous recipes that use almond flour (you can make it yourself in the blender). My friend makes the bread and it is amazing!!! I make the carrot cake...fabulous. One must be careful of the high fat in these treats, because of the almond flour. For me, they are a blessing, because grain flour is just not a good option.
Learn to be the judge for what is best for your body.
Andreas Moritz has a great forum here and he subscribes to aurevidic medicine. I've not done macrobiotics, but look into that too. See what works for you.
