Hi,
I'm a 21 year old college student. I was diagnosed with Bell's Palsy, when I was 12. My face didn't really improve on its own, and I had a very severe case. I didn't receive any treatment until I was 17. When I was 17, I went to Dr. Targan. I used an electric stimulation machine. This helped my face a lot. When I was 20, my physical therapist's (Dr. Targan's employee) thought that I couldn't benefit anymore from the electric stim. My face still had noticeable paralysis, although Dr. Targan helped me tremendously. I then went to an acupuncturist. My face is almost 100% now. I think that part of the reason the acupunture worked so well was that Dr. Targan's machine prevented my facial muscles from atrophying as much as they otherwise would have. I realize that other people have had different experiences, but I just want to share my experience. I think these treatments are worth trying, and I think it's very important to find a good acupuncturist. The one that treated me was a genius. Good luck to you and your son! And if I may have any info that would help you (or anyone else), you could email me at eryan@sas.upenn.edu.
Best,
Elise Ryan
