Now I just don't believe there are "powers" that are trying to destroy america with the Terri Schiavo case. I believe that there are some folks who feel very strong, maybe identify with the people involved. The person posting as wrenn sees herself in the same place as Ms. Schiavo, because she herself has had a brain injury. She feels like allowing Ms. Schiavo to die is the same as letting her die. I also could see myself in Ms. Schiavo's place, only I have the oppisite fear, I fear someone would keep me alive, when I believe death is very natural, and being hooked up to a machine is totally wrong.
The right to lifers I think are good people. Doing only what they think is right. I just happen to believe everyone should be allowed to control his or her own life. In the Schiavo case, someone had to make a choice. Terri could not, so someone did. Will this effect thousands of other cases, I doubt it. Only if there are thousands of other brain dead people who have family members arguing over what to do. Will the government be taking away everyone's feeding tube? Well, of course not. Will the government be disconecting every person in PVS from life support? Well, not as long as there a medical directive. So, take charge of your life, you want life support so your body can live forever? Easy, fill out a medical directive. I have to just to be allowed to die naturally. I don't understand the big fuss.
So here is my point. I think americans are by nature independent people, Good, well meaning people who are not afraid to say what they think and fight for what they believe in. I think that is good. I do also think americans will unite when push come to shove. Faith, hope and love will alway be there for people who want it. I know I have it.
