Re: The Silence about September 11

I'm a bit concerned that the author has peppered his writings with
some exaggerations:

"By 1989 millions of Afghan civilians had been killed, millions more had been
internally displaced, and hundreds of thousands of Soviet troops had been killed. In the process, the nation of Afghanistan was torn to
pieces."

My research indicates around 15,000 Russians were killed. About a
million Afghanis died. Six million became refugees. Half of the
Afghan villages were destroyed.

"Had the belatedly scrambled fighter jets flown at their maximum speed of engagement, MACH-12, they would have reached NYC and
the Pentagon within moments of their deployment, intercepted the hijacked airliners before they could have hit their targets, and
undoubtedly saved lives."

The writer calculates that the top speed of an interceptor is Mach 12.
That calculates to 9,120 mph. The "Black Bird," (SR71) flies at a
bit over 3,000 mph. SR71 is about as fast as they make 'em. Fighters
won't touch it, to my knowledge
