you know there is something amiss when people from all walks of life band together for a common cause. at first, it struck me as odd that conservatives were opposing the patriot act, seeing that the people who are promoting it are ultra-conservative. but then again, it occurred to me that the conservatives originally ARE for personal freedoms (as long as it doesn't involve your sexuality or right to choose...), so it DOES make sense now that they would object. after all, that means they would be stripped of their weapons, their phones would be bugged, their travel monitored, their bank accounts spied on, etc, etc. and if hatch is soooo keen on "watching" others, how would feel being watched himself? oh, but he's "the good guy", right? no need to watch him. another thing that's really been bothering me - is it true that non-citizens can be arrested and held for up to 6 months without any charges under the patriot act, or is that patriot act II, which hasn't been passed yet? would i be safe at my country's consulate? not that i've done anything wrong, except i was planning on a trip to france next month. anyone?
