The idea isn't to introduce energy into the water. It merely removes one type of energy leaving a sufeit of the other.

Silver wire is as good as any other but there's really no need to fuss. Anything that will carry electricity will do. One of the advantages of this system is is simplicity. Once you know how to do it you almost can't do it wrong, and it works on almost everything. And FAST.
