Re: SARS is not just an Asian disease

Hi Nodairygirl,

I agree completely with you...
No racism was intended. Unfortunately, every country blames another identifiable country for various diseases...
England blamed France for Syphilis hundreds of years ago. The US blamed England for the same disease.

Each year , the "west" worries about the "Hong Kong Flu" and takes innoculations to help prevent it.
The US weather man is always telling his audience that a "cold front" is sweeping across the eastern States
and blames Canada for providing the bad weather. It is nicer to point a finger of blame rather than just
say "It's cold today".

If travel between continents was not so easy we would all be safer from the bugs that travel with people.
I suspect that the main reason why the Asian fear is present is because of the negative effect on trade
if the sickness spreads. It is no wonder why the west was not hearing much until about four months
after the problem began. It could have been much easier to contain if the news was spread earlier
than the infection.

When a larger population of the west is afflicted with SARS and we carry it to Africa or Australia, or Europe,
will the same fear be present? You bet it will.

Lets work together to make sure that we don't pick up and spread the infection.. Stay home just like you
were ALWAYS told to do when you only had a COMMON COLD.

Good luck to all...
Ron
