Re: Epilepsy - only one seizure

Good Morning J,

I am responding to you message about he VNS. The only thing that I can tell you right off of the bat is that I don't think that your going to be a candidate for the implant. Only because you have only had one seizure.
They normally use the VNS on patients who have frequent or daily seizure activity.
My Son is 10 yrs old, and has had seizures since he was 4 months old. He had been on every medication out there..and nothing else worked.
so we went ahead and had the implant.
AFTER 3 yrs of having the VNS, he is still having seizures. NOW we are at the point of looking into that Ketogenic Diet. It is a high fat diet, and is supposed to work within the first two or three days of being on it.
Maybe you might want to look into that? It doesn't hurt to ask your doctor if ya could try that before you go and have surgery
Good luck..and keep coming to these message boards and post questions , give your input.. we are all here looking for answers and the only way we are going to find them is if we keep on asking.
Have a great day!
Dee
