Epilepsy - only one seizure

I am a 48 year old female that up-to-date has only one seizure. Just before this seizure came on I had been diagnosed with Depression with a memory loss. After being on Celexa for a few days my husband witnessed me having a grand mal. The only thing I remember is being tired for the whole day afterwards. The dr. immediately changed the medicine to Paxil and sent me to a neurologist. I had a MRI done. This dr. put me on Dilantin. I took it for two years. I went off both medicines not quite a year ago. My memory has gotten slowly worse but I felt better physically. Starting yesterday I started having a bad taste in my mouth. My husband and a friend told me today that this was one of the complaints that I had just before the seizure. This is not encouraging to me. I am starting back on the medicine gradually. I am starting to research this illness. On this site someone talked about VNS. What is this. And another message spoke of it improved their short term memory. Any information would be appreciated
