I believe you are all wrong in your diagnosis.

The scientists all agree that bad breath is caused by anaerobic bacteria making by products. The problem is that you are using low strength mouthwash that really has no effect on the bacteria. In fact as you have also found out these mouthwash can change your taste perception.
