Re: pill popping and pregnancy
My best suggestion would be to switch from pills to teas and healthy foods, concentrated foods. None of those supplements are bad per se, but if you're having trouble sleeping then they certainly aren't solving the entire problem! :)
It's too bad our society doesn't teach about how to prepare the body for pregnancy, but it's not too late! The best resource I've found so far is "Nourishing Traditions" by Sally Fallon. It stresses getting nutrtion from food and how to do it for maximum absorption, utilization and TASTE yippee! :)
Basically, you only want to take minimal vitamins because with a weak liver you're not going to absorb much of them anyways, so they'll only end up stressing your kidneys.
A good pregnant lady diet is full of:
Eggs, preferably poached like egg drop soup
homemade broths from free-range chicken, cows and turkeys
Seafood, including raw oysters for iodine, pickled herring for zinc, Salmon for everything, and Caviar
cod liver oil, 1 tsp daily for Vits A & D - very very essential!
Liver - chicken and beef. Soak beef liver for 3 hours in lemon juice before cooking. Only get liver from pasture-grazing cattle. Find a butcher near you who sells the good stuff or go online at Weston A Price foundation (www.westonprice.org I think) for sources.
Kefir for the good microbes that help create Vitamin K for clotting factors and good blood
raw, organic milk - goat or cow, just not pasteurized or homogonized
Broccoli, spinach, etc., for calcium and all the other good stuff.
Extra-Virgin Coconut oil - great for the immune system and building new tissues
REAL organic butter (gots to have fats to absorb minerals properly)
Blue-green algea, spirulina and chlorella in a supplement like E3Live or
Dr. Schulze ' super green food or Perfect Food by Garden of Life. Try to get your nutrients from food. This is concentrated food rather than manufactured vits, a much better way to go.
Royal jelly for more B's.
To cleanse your liver, get a juicer and juice this drink daily:
Carrots - as many as you want
Beet - about half a beet
apple - just half or one whole, preferably green like Fuji
Parsley (for the minerals and flush kidneys)
Ginger - for the liver, produce more bile, and aid digestion overall. Ginger tea and peppermint tea are great for nausea.
Follow this drink with some butter or cream so that the beta carotene in the carrot juice can be turned into Vit A.
Occasionally add kale and/or spinach for more of a green drink.
Hope that helps! :)
