Dear friend,
I had the same situation. I felt that if I were to say the Shahada ( the declaration of Faith that enters one into islam ) I would be turning my back on the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary.
I would read Islamic books, but the one book I had to almost close my eyes because it was as though every page there was a beaming light that illuminated before me, I could just handle the light that came from it. I gulped the words up, and each sentence was just as powerful as the last, my soul was dying, thirsty, and this book was the Quran. English translation of the Meanings.
The holy Quran, Yusuf Ali translation.
I highly suggest you read this book.
I too was brought up Catholic. The religion of islam I found out, is the true religion that Christ, the son of Mary, who was raised up from persecution to be next to God almighty, was sent with. Jesus, peace be upon him, told others that God in Heaven was his God and our God. If you can read one of Jesus's Sermons, it will ring true to every muslim. Because, no one is a muslim if they do not believe that Jesus was born from the Holy Virgin Mary, sinless and pure, and that he spoke from the cradle, that he healed by Gods will, and he is in Heaven and will return. When Jesus does return, the Muslims will follow him.
I know more about Jesus as a muslim, than I did when I was a Catholic.
