Muslims and Eid al-Melaad (Christmas)

Assamlamu Alaykum, friends. As I have noted in a prior thread, I am a Indian Catholic interested in Islam. I study Arabic, and consequently, am quite informed about the tenets and practices of Islam. I was wondering, though, why don't Muslims celebrate Christmas--the birthday of the Jesus (pbuh), one of the four great prophets of Islam? I never understood this. Any responses are appreciated.
