Re: Seeking advice for ADD and Anxiety alternatives...
Hi B,
I am working on the same problems as you without the anxiety but the same things seem to help anxiety as ADD. Inositol is linked to improving anxiety in double blind studies. Inositol hexaniacinate is the safest form of niacin and does not have the side effects of other niacin supplements at 800-1300 mg. If you want one supplement then this would be my first choice.
You may have a zinc deficiency and taking a zinc supplement might I think that people who are ADD have a problem with tryptophan metabolism. Inositol(B-3) and foods with vitamin B help our bodies metabolize tryptophan. As far as diet goes, I would suggest a Bannana for B-6 a day and you might eat potatoes(baked), which are a good B-6 foods. Rice Bran is high in B-6. Oily fish is high in B-6. Oatmeal and bran cereals are also high is B-6. Almonds are good for for B-2.
You say you are a healthy eater but that could mean you are low in Zinc. Meats and dairy are the main source of Zinc. I don't do dairy as it is bad for humans but I do eat Shellfish that are high in Zinc if you eat shellfish. Oily fish are good for Omega 3's and zinc. Unsalted sunflower almonds, walnuts, and Brazil nuts are good sources of Zinc. Rice Bran also is high in Zinc. Sesame Seeds & Pumpkin seeds are also high in Zinc.
I really like what I read about Inositol hexaniacinate as it does not cause side effects but I would also consider eating those B vitamin foods and zinc foods.
