Maybe this is entirely un-helpful, but I thought I'd throw it in. I really think the Kundalini interpretation is spot-on, but as a trained "yogi", this is what immediately sprung to mind. It strikes me as very interesting that you're seeing a snake and also an electrical cord....at many different levels.
There is an important system of philosophy in yoga called Advaita Vedanta or just Vedanta. An important tenet of it is called "Adhyaropa" or superimposition. Classically, we think we see a snake lying on the ground and feel fear, but it turns out to be just a rope.
