Problems with sungazing

I posted this in the sungazing forum but I really wanted to get your opinion. I was sungazing for a couple of months. I would go out about 30 to 45 minutes after sunrise and look into the sun for 5 seconds or so. Often the following day my eyes would feel hot and have a burning feeling. Sometimes when I woke up they would be crusty or feel glued shut. I didn't feel I was progressing with it so I never went over 10 seconds.

My sister recently had an eye exam and she was told she has some retinal damage, probably caused by not wearing sunglasses in strong sun. I didn't think that was possible. We live in South Florida and we both have light colored eyes. After she told me that I stopped sungazing. Is sungazing inadvisable for people closer to the sun or with light eyes?

I was hoping sungazing would improve my vision, but in fact my vision seems worse and more blurry now. Do you think I've permanently damaged my eyes and why do you suppose it didn't work for me OR should I persevere with the sungazing?

Thank you very much!!
