help with esophagus ulcer & acid reflux

I just had an orthoscopy (camera tube down the throat) and have finally nailed down the chest pain I've been having. The muscle that closes off the end of the esophagus into the stomache does not close properly and is causing my stomache acid to come up and burn my esophagus. I have a couple of ulcers as a result that are causing me varying degrees of pain. The doctor of course prescribed me acid reflux drugs which I refuse to be a slave to. My question is what can I do about this situation? Since the muscle will never grow back (or so the doctor claims) what could I possibly do to stop further damage & cure the current ulcers? Is it possible to get that muscle back working again so I don't have to worry about this problem ever again? Any help on this is greatly appreciated, thank you.
