Severe pain from metronidazol and ciprofloxacn

I was prescribed these two medications for a mild case of diverticulitis according to a CT scan. I am having severe abdominal pain, worse than the diverticulitis, which was pretty bad. The pain from the medication is horrible burning and cramping. I took it once before with the same results. I was wondering if others have experienced this and if it is normal and I should just tolerate it. I have tried bactrim. That was just a month ago or so. I could not tolerate it either, but I can't remember why now. (husband has cancer, I work full-time, take care of him and a disabled son so remembering things isn't happening right now). I am tempted to stop the medication after taking it for 3 days and try eating right, taking a clove of garlic and drinking water. My doctor did let me discontinue it last time it did this telling me that it was just a "mild case" and I would probably be ok with the 5 or six days that I took it. I did not have any problems for 2 years following that. He didn't tell me that my reaction to the medication was abnormal so I thought it was what everyone had to put up with when taking these two meds. Thanks in advance.
