Re:Diverticulosis/itis

I just found your forum on the big "D," after many hours searching and researching the cause, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, possible surgery and possible cure.
I have been suffering from the disease since the early 90s with repeated flare-ups, being hospitalized twice for treatment, two rounds of the colonoscopy, a couple CTs, and as of yesterday my second Barium Enema that will probably be my last BE if I ever have a say in the matter.
Gastroencologist recommended that I see a surgeon about a month ago after the "C" test, referring me to have the surgery. Surgeon wasn't all that convinced without the BE, and wanted that before he would come to a conclusion. Conclusion in, that I am justified for surgery with one larger mass on the lower left bottom side, but also pockets spread out all around the colon, so he said he could take out the lower mass, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't reoccur in anothe spot. That leaves the surgery decision completely up to me.
Before surgery I have now decided to explore other optional methods like some of the colon cleansing, etc. That doesn't look pleasant either to me right now. So I'm looking for information from someone who has done the colon cleansing to see if that actually gets rid of the "D," or is just helpful in living better with the disease. Sorry this is so long, but I'm really desperate!
