If there was a big market for these kind of cars wouldnt there be manufacturers who want to cash in on it?
I've heard about some corporations investing in different kinds of fuel like hydrogen i think so there's definately some interest.

Until the majority of pie eating, couch potato, i-will-drive-my-car-to-the-shop-even-tho-it's-2-minutes-walk-away kind of people really want those kind of cars i dont think the car industry will drastically change things.
