Health care stinks...
I just checked recently. Blue Cross wants almost $300 a month from me for coverage. As I don't put much faith in western medicines ability to deal with chronic or life threatening diseases, it is a bit of dilemma. (except for trauma care, western medicine is woefully lacking -- treating symptoms rather than curing disease). However being covered if I was hit by a car, or needed a new kidney would be nice.
I have to weigh that excessive cost per month for health care against using that money for other necessities of life (like food, clothes and shelter). Almost $4000 a year is nothing to sneeze at. So, I have no coverage here at present.
I was up in Saskatchewan recently when my father passed away. The folks up there did a wonderful job keeping him alive for several years on dialysis. He was totally and completely covered for everything. He got 3 treatment a week, hospital care when needed, meds, and even stuff like walkers and such.
He choose to go off of treatment and soon passed away, however his coverage (as far as western medicine was concerned) was exceptionally good.
And he didn't pay 3, 4 or 5 hundred a month ...and then have to worry about being cut off when he got really sick and needed it most.
If the US government didn't spent a million dollar for every cruise missile, and billion and billions blowing small countries (whose resources we covet) off the map, the federal government could easily supply each and every American with decent health care. However, our tax dollars simply go into the pockets of crooked international bankers (as most income tax simply goes to paying the interest on the national debt) and most of what's left over goes to war machines that kill women and children third world countries.
I think I like Canada's system better if it's all the same.
