Re: Dry Hair

Hi Dot,

The coconut is a bit expensive, but it is an incredible product and well worth the price! When you consider all it can do for you, it is really cheap! There is a book called "The Healing Miracles of Coconut Oil", by Dr. Bruce Fife (naturopath). It costs $16.00. If you do as Lorri suggests and get it from tropicaltraditions.com, the price of the book goes to $12.00 with any coconut oil purchase. Check the site carefully as a quart of oil is significantly cheaper per ounce than the pints, etc. I'm also quite sure that the shipping is free--which is a great benefit. I also have a very small income, but I cut back whatever I have to in order to be able to have my coconut oil.

The oil will boost your metabolism because of it's effect on the thyroid. I expect that could be part of your dry hair problem--along with the interrelation of menopause/thyroid, etc. Since money is an issue, if you don't know one way or another if your thyroid is not working correctly, I would spend the money on the conconut oil instead of very likely wasting it on lab tests that are hihgly inaccurate, and few docs know how to properly interpret them anyway. If the oil doesn't help you (as far as thyroid is concerned), it certainly won't hurt you--and could very well help with many other health issues you may have--and some you may not even be aware that you have. It is anti-parasitic, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, etc. It should also boost your energy level.

Some progesterone cream would probably be a good step as well.

Yes, the oil does taste "coconutty", but if you get creative, it can be quite interesting. Try some fresh fruits in the blender, using some pineapple as one of them. My favorite is a few chunks of the pineapple, some pear, banana, and orange--then add a couple of tablespoons of the oil. It is best to take 2-3 doses per day. Too much too fast can make you feel a little crummy as if you have any parasites, etc., the oil will kill them. If you don't have a good GI tract, or you have problems with constipation, when the oil does it's detoxing, what you don't/can't eliminate will be reabsorbed. You may then think it isn't working and quit. Please don't. Just back off a little, get your self hydrated and bowels working good, and keep it up. The bottom line is to get it down. The book I referred to earlier has some recipes if memory serves me right.

For the hair, just warm your hands and get a very thin layer on them and apply it mainly to the ends--at least to start with, until you get a feel for it. The first few times I used it, even tho' I thought I was only using a little bit, I was using way too much! I looked like I had stuck my head in an oil can! My hair is thick and curly, but had lost it's curl and was the consistency of straw due to thyroid and menopuase issues. Now with using 4T./day (in 2 "doses"), everything is falling into place. It really needs to be used internally and externally for any lasting benefit. I had to give up a few bad health habits (coke classic, pretzels), and some other things I thought I couldn't live without in order to be able to afford the oil, but, that has only been to my benefit as well, so in effect, I am making twice as much progress. Anyway, my hair is almost back to normal.

I can't stress enough the importance of getting GOOD oil. There are many places to get it, but IF IT IS HEAT PROCESSED, YOU ARE TOTALLY WASTING YOUR MONEY. Please make sure it is virgin coconut and not RBD (refined, bleached, deodorized). You're better off with nothing than using that. The stuff from tropical traditions is good. There are other places, but they stand behind thier products.

I hope this helps someone.
