Chronic illness - Disability Politics - in USA Army as vets return from Iraq with PTSD

http://www.truthout.org/docs_2005/122705J.shtml

- link - to story about Vets with PTSD who are making disability claims, but these claims might be refused [for offical reasons, and reasons explored here].

This latest batch of messed up soldiers is showing a lot of sings of PTSD, enough enough of them are messed up enough that the claims for disability incomes are "breaking the bank". Or so they say, it is all very political.

There is a mirror for the normal public disability claims politics too - we've long said they are not allowing claims , refusing disabled people an income, refusals based on false ideas about cheaters and malingerers.

Some of the games in the USArmy disability claims branch are typical:
"experts within and outside the Veterans Affairs Department are raising concerns about fraudulent claims, wondering whether the structure of government benefits discourages healing, and even questioning the utility and objectivity of the diagnosis itself."

K - thats saying there are
1]a lot of fakers making claims, and
2] that just having the safety net is making people jump [believing , or pretending, that they are disabled for an income].

Both of these concerns have serious flaws, and likely are just a response to budget numbers: "as more people reach out for help, it squeezes the budget further." the Vets officials say [quote from link above]

When we see that only 1 in 10 PTSD-striken vets is even making a claim, we can see that the budgets need re-working, up, as a way to encourage them to get help. Its not that the false claimants are so numerous they are costing too much, it is that the real cases are not even tallied up yet. They better get those budgets re-worked!!

I am certain that 'society in general' would have less troubles over time if we help them rather than just hope they get along in life ok , despite their illness. This group would be the future addicts, abusers, and criminals eventually.

Same in regular society, just different budgets. Same tricks to keep the numbers down
TWO reaons Bush wants numbers down -
1] the war isn't so bad
2] saves money for his Elite friends rather than poor hurt vets.
