I have read many of the messages here and they mostly see circumcision as negative. As a mother I do understand the points of view but would like readers to try to understand the other point of view. Not easy when it is such an emotive issue.
I remarried when my son was ten and it was a difficult time for him. I married a Muslim man and as a family we decided to convert to Islam. My son was uncircumcised but was keen to have it done. He was circumcised under local anaesthetic with his consent because we felt it important that he be involved in the decision. It was pain free and he is happy to be circumcised. When Ihad a baby with my husband we decided to have him circumcised at birth.
Eleven years ago I would have been horrified at the idea circumcising any of my children. Now that my life has changed my views have changed.
It is not the right decision for everyone, I understand that, but there is a place for it. If I belived it would harm my children in any way I wouldn't have permitted it. But it doesn't - what is so wrong with having a clean healthy penis?
