Hi #26005, I was laying in bed thinking about your post and just had to get up to respond. I do see your point about the new testament vs. the old testament and it is very compelling.

Here are my thoughts (not in any particular order):

Not all Christians choose to understand the bible in that way. There are people out there who, in the name of Christianity, quote the old testament all of the time. So-called non-believers are not the only ones with "chatter and scripture taken out of context". Many a Christian has done the same thing. I think what you see going on on this forum right now is what is commonly referred to as "giving people a taste of their own medicine". I think it is a reaction to people 1. taking the bible very literally to suit their own purposes and 2. doing the same thing in reverse with documents in other religions. I believe the poster below is just trying to show that when the bible is dissected, there are some questionable passages as well. If you read some of the threads before that, you will understand what I mean.

I am sorry that you interpret this as hate. I really don't think that it is. The poster is not saying that Christians are evil or terrible. He/she is only pointing out inconsistencies and questionable phrases in the bible. Sometimes dissecting things is an important aspect towards understanding. It led you to post your beliefs about the bible, which in turn broadened mine understanding.
