Everyone feels oppression at one time or another, for a variety of reasons, and sometimes for no apparent reason at all. If a believer experiences such oppression, and it appears to stem from a bad relationship, can we assume there must be a soul tie, or can there be another explanation?

I don't remember his name, but I heard a tape of a Christian radio program where James Dobson interviewed a pastor who had completely lost his voice due to a virus. Doctors verified the irreparable damage of the nerves controlling the vocal cords and gave him no chance of recovery. After about three years, while teaching a Sunday School class by whispering into a microphone, his voice suddenly and completely returned. Doctors examined him and saw no trace of the "irreparable" damage. At the moment his voice returned, the man said he felt as though a choke hold was released from his neck.

The man had not had any kind of unChristian relationship or any such thing as that, yet this apparently had a spiritual dimention to it. If there had been such a relationship, those believing in soul ties would undoubtedly have attributed it to that. For that reason, and the lack of Biblical mention of it, I can find no reason to attribute other spiritual oppresion to soul ties.

Why was this man spiritually oppressed in spite of living a godly life? We don't know. Like what happened to Job, when a series of disasters happened that could not be explained away, God does not always reveal the cause. So I'm saying that although there may be definite spiritual causes for some things, the presumption that soul ties are the cause is not supportable by Scripture.
