Because I've used it for a few years. I started using it on my daughter who had ear infections over and over. We finally saw an otororanologist (so not the spelling) and she had more scar tissue than he had ever seen. Surgery removed it but she now only has 40% hearing in that ear. We started the candleing. Personally, I'm going to do it myself this weekend. My ear is stopped up. For she and I both, it is so relaxing. You can hear the wax moving. It is also good for sinus problems, it draws from the tubes. I will say that on more than one occassion, it took two candles for one ear. If you do it right, I don't see how it can do any damage. The vaccum is not like a Hoover. It is a slow draw. I buy candles at GNC. You can order from the web too. Protect yourself from burns. The burning candle can fall off. I recommend it. My daughter and I both enjoy it and she is now 19. Look all over the web for pictures of how to do it.
