What are the signs of an abdominal hernia?

I apparently had a hernia as an infant, got surgery, have scar in the 'pubic hair area', on the right side of centre. [close, but not 'the cigar'? ha ha ha][yes, I am male].

Now I am wondering if it has come back to haunt me, or if I might have another hernia?

I get a "bloated" look to my lower tummy. It can be a sharp pain, but usually just an agonising griping pain for that past 4 years. I am tierd of this battle.

I cant quite suck it in, I have good muscle tone in my abdomen[I do situps and so on], there is no fat on me, just this bloated look. Why?

...but I can only rarely make a flat belly. I suck my gut in, and there is a pouch below my navel. Maybe constipation sometimes, but not usually. I can fast, eliminate well, and its still there, bloated little pouch.
Sometimes it is on one side or the other, usually centre.

It does seem to give comfort to press in on my lower abdomen, and that seems like a hernia eh?

If not a hernia, what else could it be? permanent bloated bowel? Maybe it is excess stool that I am just not eliminating?

what are the signs of a hernia?

K
