Low Carb: High or Low Protein?

As you have probably seen, there are lots of guidelines provided in this forum for alkalizing. In general, Dr. Robert O. Young's dietary guidelines emphasize:
-- high good fats/high greens/high water content vegetables
-- low protein/low carb
-- super hydration = 1 liter of structured (alkaline) water per 30 lbs of body weight
An ideal meal includes:
-- 75% veggies, with as many raw as possible (a salad, "raw soup" and/or fresh veggie juice is the ideal centerpiece for your meal)
-- 25% whole, natural carbs -OR- protein (not both)

Please note: do not confuse low carb with high protein. They are not the same! Lots of folks do low carb by replacing carbs with protein, but that is not the solution if you want to alkalize (since animal protein is acidifying). Also, keep in mind that, in the long run, high protein diets have seriously debilitating effects:

You wrote: I cannot eat complex carbs like whole rice as it makes candida and my cfs/fm much, much worse. I do have some low carb whole grain bread substitutes though. I can't eat fruit either for the same reason.

You're right. A low carb approach is best if you're having problems with candida. Dr. Young's book on _The pH Miracle_ explains why:

What do you mean by "bothers" your bladder? In my case, alkalizing provided complete relief to 27 years of chronic bladder infections, but it was not without an initial healing crisis. Please feel free to contact me directly if want more info....

Actually, the reactions you are having sound like detox reactions, not allergies, Angielynn. These symptoms are very common when beginning an alkalizing regimen, and it is important if you react this way to clean the colon in order to reduce the toxic load on the body. Dr. Young provides guidelines for an "alkalarian" cleanse:

You wrote: I do drink decaf coffee but I put a bunch of baking soda in it and test it so it is alkaline. Should I take a lot of coral calcium, more baking soda? What would you suggest? Thanks

I would suggest reading more from Dr. Young (see links below), since he provides a comprehensive explanation of how acidosis contributes to all the symptologies you've described: candida, cystitis, cfs/fm. This larger, broader understanding will help provide a good foundation for cleansing and alkalizing which always go hand-in-hand.
Hope this helps!
