If you scan through www.liverdoctor.com and www.sensiblehealth.com you'll find info on the liver-adrenal connection, which is actually by way of the thyroid.
The liver is what changes T3 to T4 (or vice versa, I get things backwards sometimes), which is the pre-cursor to thyroid then the actual useable thyroid hormone. When the liver is congested, it doesn't do this, so the thyroid produces more and more as the pituitary gland keeps telling it hey, where's the thyroid hormone? make more! until it gives out.
When it gives out, the adrenals come running to do backup. Unfortunately, all it can do is speed up the metabolism with adrenaline, as it doesn't have the same hormones. This causes hypoglycemia, and then the adrenals give out, along with the pancreas.
