Re: hypnosis to erase memory?

hi

I am a hypnotherapist and here is my experienced opinion.

You can never fully erase a memory. It is always there, you just may not think about it. A little bit like a scrape you had as a child which you never think about now, painful as it was at the time.

In my experience, the healthiest way of dealing with negative memories is for the therapist to eliminate the negative emotional charge surrounding the memory. This can result in you recalling the memory from time to time but eventually not thinking about it as it reduces in significance. Replacing a pleasant memory in place of a negative memory is one way of doing it but if there is a lot of emotional charge around the event, this becomes more difficult.

I have on occasion found that it possible to help someone stop thinking about an event, but when reminded they are able to think about it. This does not seem to work for everyone however.

Good luck with your search for a hypnotherapist, maybe you should telephone them to check their experience in this matter before scheduling an appointment
