I've been studying NLP and hypnosis for quite some time now. I think you can not erase a memory, but simply put a lesser meaning to it or in "the best" case deny your conscious mind from accessing it. However in the second case I believe that the subconscious still being aware of the memory would act as if it is stil there, making you anxious for no apparent reason. Much like a suppressed memory.
My adice would be to see a hypnotherapist, but instead of erasing the memory, try making it more like a past experience from which you can learn something and not put any emotional value to it. It is the past.
You have to know that our brain measures what's happening now, is comparing it to the past and trying to figure out the future based on that data. It is trying to protect us. Our subconscious is our protector and will stop at nothing to do that - even if it seems bad to you at the moment.
Ofcourse, I've read some recent studies on feelings and emotions and certain authors suggest that our emotions are at least part driven or ignited by our conscious mind. It is very important to move on. Acnolege what happened, take it as a PAST experience and know you are the master of YOUR destiny, not the memories or perhaps people that did something to you. It's hard, I know, but sometimes all it takes is to let go. Say to yourself: "I acnolege what happened and choose to take it as a past experience and will remove the emotional value I had assigned it. I am ready to let go and move on now". Feel the emotions slowly disolve in your new enlightenment, feel free and ready to MOVE ON. That's right, feel how good it feels to be rid of that burdon. The past can not be changed, but the future will be bright from now on.
In fact you don't need a therapist. You are already free, aren't you :))
