Molly, do you forget about it sometimes?
How persistant is the ringing?
There is no way to compare one person's experience with another's, or one another's ability to 'deal with' the problem, but I do know that I 'got over' the frustration I once felt.
Occasionally I renew my determination to seek silence, but most of the time I just forget about it. I have sometimes wondered if it gets louder or more intense at the times I do notice it. One specialist made the point that, if the noise varied in any way, then it might be cureable! :)
That's why I thought the helichrysum experience so important.
It could have been due to some other factor, I suppose. Like maybe I experienced some kind of temporary deafness. Or, I had cut off the blood/nerve activity by resting my cheek on my hand (which I did often, but usually without affecting tinnitus).
You can bet money on the fact that I wanted to continue with the helichrysum! I squeezed that little bottle till it squeaked, and carried it around empty like a touchstone, sniffing the lingering aroma!
Eventually the bottle got tossed, and not replaced...we couldn't afford another.
It does make sense to increase circulation of the body's lymph and blood systems. And to seek that particular vibration once more.
I'll work on it.
Right now, I'm wondering about salicylates (sp?), the seed-protecting elements in the skins of seeds, etc. (I am a dark green salad freak.)
You'll be the first to know.

P.S. I had my pneumonia bouts in my twenties and thirties, mostly before
Antibiotics , I think. In any case, we are looking for the cure, whatever the cause. Once we find the substance, procedure, or lifestyle that removes the noise, we can then suggest causes.
Hm-m-m... Some kinds of gentle external ear massages feel good, too. Got to try more of that...
