frequent cold sores..want to try famvir

I get very frequent cold sores and have been supressing hsv1 for a year now taking 2x500mg Valtrex. The last few months I have improved to the point where i'm not having to fight off outbreaks weekly but, I still get reminder prodomes almost every day.

I am considering trying Famvir supressively. I am also condidering it because my hair is thinning I assume due to the Valtrex. I read the Famvir literature and it does not list herpes labialis (cold sores) as something it treats.

I really want to try Famvir but, I'm scared to death to try it as I almost become non functional when I have cold sores due to the social anxiety. I'm worried that Famvir just won't work at all.

For people who have had frequent cold sores what are your experiences in switching or using Famvir? I've read lots online but, thought I'd ask this forum too.
